The backyard patch. This is where our monarch waystation will be. It looks better in person. 
It's hard to see the flowers, but I've planted all annuals here. The ornamental grass came with the house. 
This is my favorite part of the yard. In the spring, I got those rolly flower mats and this is what came up...zinnias, marigolds, black-eyed susans, just to name a few. It took almost two months for everything to bloom but it was worth the wait! 
I let the kids pick out flowers to put in the empty bed by the driveway. The petunias (these are regular and not the wave) are going nuts! In the middle is a blushing bride hydrangea.
The hedge roses I planted along the side of the house. They're not fully mature yet but they are still pretty. 
Our newest addition...Hopper. We picked him up at the botanic gardens in Omaha. He happily guards a patch in the front yard.

Very pretty, Barb. I have a frog in my front garden too. It's just something from Dollar General, but I needed it.
I have to tell you about our Monarch caterpillar. We found a Monarch caterpillar in my garden. I didn't realize I had milkweed in there. I was pulling weeds and almost grabbed him. At first, I didn't know that he was a monarch but we looked it up. Emma put him in a jar with a bunch of milkweed and last night, he started to attach himself to the tulle on top. Today, he made his chrysalis. It's beautiful. We are patiently waiting now.
Oh, Jacob would be so jealous! That is so cool that you found a Monarch caterpillar! I wonder if you have any more in there. I'd love to see pictures if you have any. We're going to raise some next year after we get the milkweed in. Can't wait!
I've been having trouble with the camera lately. Emma tried to take a picture of it yesterday. We actually found 2 caterpillars but we put one back.
We have a whole back fence with milkweed on it. Ours is a creeping vine.
Very cool! We have a lot of host plants for butterflies...purple coneflower, zinnia and coreopsis but no milkweed. We've been doing a lot of research on gardening for monarchs and have already learned a lot! Everyone says if you plant it, they will come. Apparently, that's right! Again, I'm really jealous!
LOL, I thought it was eating morning glories. We knew that there were morning glories on the back fence because they've been infesting my garden. On one side (by my compost pile) the milkweed has been really invasive and awful to control. It never flowered like the morning glories though. It does have very small white flowers in clusters though. I'm so glad we could never get rid of it. We have some stone crop that blooms in August that the butterflies really like but I really don't have much else unless they like the flowers in the garden.
