Well, we're all dug out and the snow's even beginning to melt. The kids were out playing in it for well over an hour yesterday and were having fun throwing snowballs at each other. When all was said and done, we got somewhere between 8 and 10 inches (depending on where you read/hear it). I know it was a lot. I'm just glad that the snow came this week and not last week when we were in Peoria. I read this morning that they closed a good deal of I-70 through Missouri and that would have been the way we would have taken. I hope that everyone who was hit by this storm is digging out and staying safe.
Mike and I are going to a holiday party tonight and the kids are having a sitter. This is the first time in months that Mike and I have really been out together on a date. Yes, we went out for a little bit at Mom and Dad's last week but the kids were already in bed when we left. I'm so looking forward to some adult time and getting to meet some people.

I finally got the driveway and the
big bumps in the street cleared away about 10 this morning. So I took the car out and went to Sam's, Cub, and the Post Office. It took me three hours. I'm just not used to traveling main streets at 15 - 20 MPH. I think that I was averaging around 10 miles per gallon of gas. People with rear wheel drive cars and pickups were making problems for other drivers when they can't get going on the really crappy roads. Our new roads, after a half billion bucks and 4 years to build are reduced to one lane in each direction with no turn lanes. And the snow plows are out and can't seem to deal with it.
Oh, the next door neighbor called and wanted to know if I'd come over and dig the snow away from his back door as he couldn't get either his back door or his front door open. So I went over and let him out of his house.
(^_^)
I made it to work today! I had University St to myself this morning and got my regular parking place in the Heuser lot. The streets are still really crappy, but passable. I don't know what Bradley's going to do about classes because there's still lots of snow around. District 150 called another snow day this morning (as most schools around here are closed.) except for 12 month employees who, I guess, are expected to shovel snow today. It was 2 degrees this morning when I went to work,
so this snow isn't going to melt any time soon.
What's wrong with Peoria that they don't have the roads done by now? I can't believe that it was even a question that people couldn't get in this long after the storm!
Peoria is just a mess. In a twist of the usual, Peoria schools are the only ones closed. All the outlying schools are open and have school today because our roads are fine and have been since Saturday. Someone's going to hear about this, I'm sure and they should. Even the main roads in Peoria (War Memorial, Knoxville, etc.) are 100% snow and ice covered.
One of the big problems was the sleet storm before the snow fell.
That put an ice base to the roads.
Then they couldn't do much until the snow and wind stopped. Then there were all sorts of cars and trucks stuck all over the roads. So that screwed up removal on Friday. On Saturday every dug out and hit the roads along with the snow plows which added to the garbage. Along with the single digits which froze the snow melt into ice again. Right now, I'm thind of a sandwich for lunch from Jesters which is what's occuping the corner where Fedora's used to be. I don't want to drive the noon roads or lose my parking space today.
Dad, we had the same ice and sleet that you did and we've been fine for days.
Yabut Barb, We've had temps in the single digits for the last three nights too. That tends to keep the ice around for far too long.
Sorry, Dad. It just seems like Peoria dropped the ball on this one. We've been in the teens and they've managed to get control of the roads. Our main roads were done the day after the storm and the back streets were completely passable by Saturday. We got the same ice and foot of snow (plus more in places from drifting) you did.
Well, I ate lunch at Jester's (The
old Fedora's) this noon because I wasn't about to leave my parking space today. It's fun watching idiots tear around that corner of Bradley and Duryea and go down the road sideways. Peoria drivers are going back to being silly again.
No snow here in Indy just cold.
Yay! Ev posted! It seems unfair that you didn't get any snow.
