Yet Another Reason I Hate Winter...

ICE STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO MIDNIGHT CST TUESDAY NIGHT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PLEASANT HILL HAS ISSUED AN ICE STORM WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO MIDNIGHT CST TUESDAY NIGHT. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

FREEZING RAIN IS ONCE AGAIN EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AFTER 6 PM...AND CONTINUE THROUGH TUESDAY. SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE FROM ONE HALF TO ONE INCH ARE POSSIBLE WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR ACCUMULATIONS EXCEEDING ONE INCH. IN ADDITION...ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE...WHICH WILL PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT GLAZING IN A SHORT DURATION OF TIME. THIS STORM SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO TREES AND POWER LINES.

AN ICE STORM WARNING MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS OR IMPOSSIBLE. TRAVEL IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. COMMERCE WILL LIKELY BE SEVERELY IMPACTED. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. ICE ACCUMULATIONS AND WINDS WILL LIKELY LEAD TO SNAPPED POWER LINES AND FALLING TREE BRANCHES THAT ADD TO THE DANGER.

Luckily, we're all ready to hunker down for several days if we need to. Hopefully, we won't need to!

So, this is our forecast:

... Ice storm possible across northern Illinois and Northwest
Indiana late tonight and Tuesday...

... Winter Storm Watch now in effect from late tonight through
Tuesday evening...

The Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from late tonight through
Tuesday evening.

Freezing rain and sleet... possibly mixed at times with snow... will develop after midnight tonight. Precipitation will gradually change to mostly freezing rain Tuesday morning. Precipitation could fall rather heavily at times late tonight and Tuesday leading to the potential for rapid ice accumulations... especially on elevated objects such as trees and power lines.

Present indications are that portions of this watch area could
receive in excess of a half inch of ice... in addition to some
sleet and snow accumulations. Temperatures could rise above
freezing and precipitation turn to all rain during the afternoon
Tuesday... particularly south of I-88 and I-290. Farther north
toward the Wisconsin border precipitation may remain freezing rain through the day Tuesday.

Any small change in the forecast temperature... either at the
surface or aloft... would have drastic implications on the expected precipitation type and amounts. Persons planning travel across the watch area Tuesday should closely monitor later forecasts and statements on this developing winter storm.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

Our forecast is very similar to yours. Keep warm and safe.

We had the WSW yesterday. They bumped ours up to an Ice Storm Warning this morning. The temps are just not rising like they thought they would and it looks like that's going to make things worse on our end. Of course, if our temps rise above freezing, that will make things better but they don't look like they're going to as we're sitting on 26 degrees right now and they're starting to fall again. Ugh.

Deb...you guys stay safe too!
